Application by Richard Cross, manager of a Company of Comedians licensed for stage performances in Westminster, for a 60-day licence at Bodmin: licence granted.

 

John Clark, master, and John Quicke, mate, of the sloop Hopeful, swore that they shipped, at Bristol on 15 Aug. 1794, 32 tons of white salt, duty paid, to be carried to Falmouth for Joseph Carne, Benjamin Wilky, Jasper Richards, Joseph Ferris, William Ferris, Peter Traer and George Thomas, all of Truro, Richard Burn and John Richards of Falmouth, and Nicholas Jennings of St Mawes; on the voyage they had stormy and tempestuous weather, during which the vessel sprung a leak whereby 6 tons and 800 lbs. or 16 bushels of salt were lost, not by fault in the vessel or negligence by the crew.

Thomas Mayow, master, and Jacob Harper, of the sloop Betsey of Bristol, swore that they shipped at Bristol on 21 Jan. 1796, 6½ tons of white salt, duty paid, to be carried to Bude, within the port of Padstow, for John Cory and Henry Cory of Holsworthy, Devon, and Peter Fry of Chapel Well, Devon; after arrival at Bude, the vessel was driven from her moorings by the violence of the weather, and struck a rock, whereby the whole of the salt was lost, not due to any leakage of the vessel or negligence by the crew.

John Clark and John Quicke, mate of the brigantine Hopeful, swore that they shipped, at Bristol on 28 Feb. 1795, 20 tons of white salt, duty paid, to be carried to Truro for Joseph Carne and Francis Traer of Truro; on the voyage, the vessel shipped a large quantity of water, whereby 1,200 lbs. of salt were lost, not by any fault in the vessel or negligence of the crew.
