Administrative / biographical background:

From 1865 to 1871 Mass was said two or three times a year, generally by a priest from Stockport. The present church, which replaced a chapel built in Alma Lane in 1876, was constructed 1912-14 on a site given by Sir Humphrey de Trafford.
