Administrative / biographical background:

Mass was celebrated in Sale from about 1847, when a resident priest first came to Altrincham. In 1866 a small school-chapel was opened by Bishop Brown and the Rev M Crossley became the first resident priest four years later. The present church, in Hope Road, was started in 1884 and completed in 1929.
