Administrative / biographical background:

The Soroptimist International Club of Chester dates from 1940, having been formed following a meeting at the Grosvenor Hotel in February of that year. The club's first president was Mrs N.I.R. Clarke and sixteen members attended the first club meeting, held at the Blossoms Hotel on 16 April 1940. For an account of the club's history, see E.K.
