Some of the documents in the collection contain endorsements in the hands of

 

Sir Roger Hill (d.1729)

 

Major Roger Hill Way (d.1957)

 

These hands are both distinctive and their presence is noted in the catalogue descriptions of the documents on which they appear, although in the case of Major Way this has been done only where his endorsements give additional information

 

D192/27/12, 16, 25, 26 and D192/30 appear to belong to one series published by Jones and Co., Finsbury Square, London, but only some are identified and dated (1831)

 

D192/27/13, 19 and D192/29 appear to belong to one series, published by Tombleson and Co., Paternoster Row, London, undated

 

D192/27/10 and D192/21 belong to one series published by Vernor and Hood, 1805

These records had previously been purchased by the vendor at a sale at Sotheby's, London, on 5 July 1977 (Lot 5)

 

Some of the items in this collection, mainly correspondence, are photocopies of the original documents, which the vendor had purchased in the sale, but which the B.R.O. was not able to purchase from him

 

This catalogue also includes one item purchased from Parliament Piece, Ramsbury, near Marlborough, Wiltshire, 18 January 1979 (AR 12/79)
