Description:

The first volume includes many letters apparently from Morland's private business as a solicitor until in June 1894 he was appointed Clerk and Receiver. Even after that date there are still letters relating to other business.

These records were found among the records of the County Council in Shire Hall, where he presumably left them. They have been treated as an unofficial accession (acc. 3178).

Administrative / biographical background:

F.J. Morland was a solicitor in the firm of Morland and Son of Reading and Abingdon, working in the firm's Reading office. He was also Deputy Clerk of the Peace and Deputy Clerk of the County Council.
