Administrative / biographical background:

[Ranelagh Ladies Hockey Club was formed in c.1916, initially for girls aged 17-18 working at Pulsometer Pumps and Pettys the printer. The club was named after a successful big club of the day. Its first home ground was at Reading Lock. By the 1940s Ranelagh was based at Prospect Park, Reading. In 1970 the club moved to Cintra Sports Ground, Reading, and in 1973 to Meadway Sports Centre, Tilehurst. In 1980 the club moved to Bishopswood Sports Centre, Sonning Common, playing matches at Rivermead Leisure Centre, Reading, from 1988.

 

In 1998 the club amalgamated with Phoenix Hockey Club.]
