Administrative / biographical background:

The Bedford Amateur Musical Society ("Amateur" was removed from the title in 1880 and "Musical" was changed to "Choral" in 1988) was formed on 16 January 1867. The Society survives to this day, but was wound up in 1932 and restarted in 1941.

 

A history of the Society by Mike Benson appears in the Bedfordshire Magazine, Winter 1991, Vol. 23, no. 179 pp. 100-104.
