Administrative / biographical background:

The Fund was established in 1868 by working journalists to help members in financial difficulties, and to make grants to them or their dependents on their retirement or death. The area covered by the Fund was Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Hampshire and Monmouthshire.

 

The Fund merged with the Newspaper Press Fund, a national body, in 1986.
