Administrative / biographical background:

The Association was founded in 1975 in response to the reorganisation of local government in the area and the creation of the County of Avon. It was initially called the Local History Sub-Committee of Avon Community Council but rapidly became known as the Avon Local History Association (Avon Local History Association). An Executive Committee of the Association was formed in 1976.

 

From 1976 the Association produced an official newsletter, 'Quest' which in 1979 was superseded by a joint Avon Local History Association/Avon Archaeological Council (Avon Archaeological Council) newsletter and a journal, 'Avon Past'.
