Administrative / biographical background:

Neptune Plating was established around 1895 under the name Neptune Plating and Cutlery Works and was located at Cart Lane. It was a manufacturer of surgical instruments. It moved to 22 Church Street before the Second World War and then to its present site in Barton Manor in the mid-1960s where it is engaged in sheet metal work.

In 1968 the company bought Aust Brothers, which was originally engaged in foundry work at 12 Lower Park Row and later dealt as sheet metal workers, brass finishers, bronzers, lacquerers, electro platers, oxy-acetylene welders and general engineers. Aust Brothers still operates under its original name and is situated in Days Road.
