Administrative / biographical background:

Dr. John Augustus Noel Longley, M.D., was born on the 3rd November 1874 the son of a clergyman, and one of a large family. He trained as a doctor and in 1902 he bought a share in a medical practice in Bristol, where he remained until his retirement in 1939. In 1912, he married Mabel Lyddon Morley ('Monnie') (1874 July 6-1940 August 5). He served as a church warden of St.James (1919-1925) and maintained strong links with the church throughout his career. He was a mason, and his hobbies included poultry-keeping, tennis and billiards. He spent his retirement at 17 Hyland Grove, Westbury-on-Trym. His name disappeared from the Bristol directory in 1964. He had no children.
