The book's Latin title means “First In The East” the motto adopted by Singapore's volunteer units. The volunteers came from the many commercial companies on the island and in Malaya in business ranging from tin mines to rubber planting. They saw active service in both world wars; and suffered with other Allies POWs n Japanese captivity. This history covers the entire story of the volunteers from their foundation in the 19th century to the end of the Second World War. The major part of this publication is a comprehensive list of European WW2 Volunteers and a roll of awards of the Efficiency Decoration and Medal, The Colonial Forces Decoration and Long Service Medal, Orders and Decorations, Mention in Despatches WW1 & WW2, Jubilee and Coronation medals. Much biographical information is included.
