W.A. had sold 4 pieces of gold at 11s. each and 3 pieces of silver at 6d. each to George Blyth of Tibshelfe, labourer, one piece of silver to Matthew Beardhall of Pillesley, labourer for 6d., 3 pieces of silver to William Kirk of Pillesley, mason for 1s. and 1 piece of gold to Humphrey Brucks of Tibshelfe, labourer for 16s. W.A. stated that he believed 5 of the silver pieces were of temp. Ed. III and 7 of temp. Henry VII. W.A. committed for trial at Derby Assizes.

Petition of William Allestrye of Hardstaffe, husbandman to Henry, Duke of Newcastle:- recites the finding (as DD/P/65/15) of 5 small pieces of gold and 13 old groats; that he believed they had been hidden by his grandmother; and that he had been committed for trial at Derby Assizes by Mr. Gladwyn J.P. although the coins, if treasure trove, belonged to the Duke. Requests that the coins be taken into the Duke's custody and the magistrate asked to withdraw recognizances for petitioner's appearance at the assizes.

Letter: John Dakeyne to Henrietta; Countess of Oxford:- reports the finding of a large quantity of Roman coins at Alfreton which Mr. Morewood claimed as lord of the manor of Alfreton, but was believed by J.D. to belong to the Countess under Letters Patent of 7th James I to William, Earl of Newcastle and Sir Charles Cavendish and their heirs. Proposes to go to Alfreton to find out the quantity and finder of the coins, and to demand them for the Countess.

Correspondence concerning a horse belonging to Rev. John Simpson of Renishaw, par. Eckington; which was adjudged a deodand due to the Countess of Oxford, after a servant of J.S. had been killed, through it running against the bough of a tree when he was riding it. Memorandum of the circumstances of the case. Mentions that Jacinth Sacheverell, esq. purchased land from the trustees of the Duke of Newcastle during the Commonwealth and leased part of it to Froggat at £119 rent and the rest to Ashton at £36 rent. That J.S. bequeathed the premises to the defendant until one of his sons came of age. That after the restoration the Duke recovered the property from defendant. Plaintiff had paid rent to the Duke and had suffered distresses levied against him by the defendant.

Hope, gent.:-- recites lease to him by Jacinth Sacheverell of property in Stoake (purchased from the trustees of the Duke of Newcastle); action taken by the Duke after the Restoration for recovery of the property and agreement by John Hutton (as solicitor for the Duke) to lease the manor of Stoake and all the Duke's property there to Thomas Sacheverell, senr. for 3 lives at £150 rent, but that petitioner, not being a party to the agreement, paid his rent (as DD/P/78/1) to the Duke. Bill of Complaint in Chancery of Henry, Duke of Newcastle in Newcastle v. William Bagshaw: Recites Bargain and Sale of reversion of property as DD/P/82/5 for £1690 by trustees of the Earl to John Twill; a conveyance thereof by the Commissioners for the Sale of Forfeited Estates to John Twill for the life of the Earl; that J.T. sold the premises to William Bagshaw; that William, then Marquis of Newcastle (father of plaintiff) recovered the premises after the Restoration; and that W.B., having attorned, he and his son and heir John Bagshaw continued to hold the premises at £130 rent, until 7 years before the action. Duke complains that J.B. has paid him no rent during the intervening period on the grounds that the late Duke while "beyond the seas" had executed a conveyance for his life estate to his trustees (of which they were unaware) before the Bargain and Sale to J.T., whereby both the life estate and reversion passed to J.T. and thence to J.B.
